18th Century Provincial Coins, Tokens & Medals

18th century provincial coins, tokens, and medals issued in Great Britain, Ireland and the Colonies form a complex numismatic series. Although produced during a relatively short period of time between 1784 and 1804, well over 8500 varieties have been recorded. These include commercial coins, specious issues, artists’ proofs and die trials, commemorative medals, counterfeits, copies, and later restrikes. Specimens are known struck on all kinds of planchets and in a variety of metals. Dies were frequently reworked and reused; many changing hands well into the 19th century.
